Mamai Children’s Business Fair (formerly Genesee County Children’s Business Fair)

 

The Mamai Children’s Business Fair is a one‑day entrepreneurial marketplace where kids ages 3–17 launch real mini‑businesses—designing brands, creating products or services, and interacting directly with customers in a supportive, fun environment  .

2025 Details

 

  • Date & Time: Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 10 AM to 3 PM

  • Location: Mamai Art Gallery, 315 E 11 Mile Rd, Madison Heights, MI 

  • Booths: Up to 30 booths available; kids apply online with their business plans 

  • Prizes: Multiple cash awards—Overall Winner, Highest Potential, Most Original Idea, Best Presentation 

  • Format: Outdoor booths with tables; electricity available; minimal parental interference—the focus is on child-led sales 

What It Offers

 

  • Real‑world learning: Participants handle pricing, startup costs, marketing, and customer interactions ().

  • Entrepreneurial growth: Through judging criteria and mentorship opportunities, winners may continue developing their ventures post-fair  .

Evolution from Genesee County CBF to Mamai CBF

  1. Origins & Expansion

     

    • Launched in Flint’s Kearsley Park on Sept 4, 2021, as the “Genesee County Children’s Business Fair” with ~ 13 booths and a $15 fee  .

    • Held again in 2022 and Sept 2023 at Mamai Art Gallery’s Flint location

  2. 2025 Transformation

     

    • Rebranded to Mamai Children’s Business Fair, moved from Flint to Madison Heights at Mamai Art Gallery’s new venue  .

    • Name change reflects a broader, statewide reach, moving beyond Genesee County while maintaining its mission.

    • Format enhanced: increased cash prizes, structured judging, and maintained child-first approach with stronger support features.

 Why It Matters

The fair empowers kids to create, sell, and learn in an authentic market setting. The shift to a new name and location underscores its growing impact and ambition, fostering entrepreneurship across Michigan, not just Flint.
